How Dehydrated Skin Can Happen To All Of Us

Contrary to what you might think, dehydrated skin doesn’t happen only to dry skin types; all types are at risk for the skin issue if the factors cause it to happen to us. Yes, even oily skin types are not ‘excused’ from dehydrated skin, despite the excess oil to moisturize the skin. Read on to find out more and ways that you can do to combat it.

The unfortunate thing about dehydrated skin is it can take too long for us to notice that our skin is seriously thirsty. For dry or sensitive skin types, dehydrated skin is noticeable when your feel ‘tight’ after cleansing routine, or the skin surface feels flaky and dry instead of moist, elastic, and supple.

As for oily and combination skin types? It’ll take too long for us to notice and when the issue reaches a serious point, your skin will start producing more oil than usual to compensate for the dryness from losing too much water content within the skin – unfortunately, this leads to increased risk of trapped pore with dirt, dead skin cells, and impurities, increasing chances of acne breakouts. And all this time, the feel of ‘skin tightness’ and flaky skin surface also happens.

Specifically for oily or combination skin types, this is a rough idea to know if you have a dehydrated skin issue.

What causes dehydrated skin to all of us?

Simply put, your skin is lacking a significant amount of h20 within it causes the skin to get dehydrated. And this comes from various factors that can be the reason behind it; using products that can be too harsh for your skin (retinol, for example), coming in contact with abrasive household products, medications you’re using, the hormones fluctuating, or even due to temperature and humidity levels your skin has been exposed to.

Just like finding the root cause of acne, identifying the real reason(s) your skin gets thirsty is essential so you can take the right steps to counter the issue. And always keep on the lookout for any new factors that can cause your skin to get dehydrated.

Switching to water-based skincare products – or at least a hydrating moisturizer – will work wonders for your skin and at the same time stay away from products that are harsh and dry to your skin such as alcohol-based toners and retinol. Look for ingredients such as aloe vera and hyaluronic acid that are wonderfully hydrating for your skin.

If you can, get a face mist and use it regularly to quench your skin’s thirst.

Tip: A personal recipe of mine is to have a spray bottle of rice water that will not only hydrates your skin but also works as an anti-aging face mist, thanks to the nutrients and antioxidants in the water.

And of course, you can’t go wrong by making some changes in your diet for better, effective results: Drinking plenty of water while cutting out caffeine and sugary drinks can certainly help with long-lasting results if the habits are done consistently.
